Our Ministry that Links and Develops Sarawak, is responsible in providing extensive connectivity which is imperative because accessibility is an essential developmental factor in all aspects of economic activities such as tourism, marketing, logistics, agriculture and not forgetting the many facets of the digital economy.
Infrastructure development remains as one of the main ingredients in sustaining long-term economic growth. As we aspire to move towards a high income and advanced economy by 2030, providing reliable infrastructure is critical as the demand for such services will surge over the years with the increase in population. Priority is given to the implementation of Rakyat-centric projects emphasizing on basic rural infrastructure such as roads, water supply, electricity, telecommunications and other social amenities.
Transformation of my Ministry’s portfolio to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) is demonstrating the Sarawak Government’s commitment to uplift the development of our port sector.
This is an acknowledgement of the importance of efficient port service to facilitate trade and acts as a heart for Sarawak’s economic growth. In tandem with Sarawak’s aspiration to achieve developed state status by 2030, the Sarawak Government needs to strategize the development of our ports under its jurisdiction, namely Kuching, Rajang, Miri, Tanjung Manis and Samalaju Ports.
